Use the iPhone as your main camera!

To change your iPhone to shoot full resolution images, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on “Camera”.
  3. Tap on “Formats”.
  4. Turn OFF “High Efficiency”
  5. Select the highest resolution available (Most Compatible).
  6. Close the Settings app. (or see below for instructions on how to use Apple ProRaw)

Your iPhone will now capture photos at the highest resolution available for your device. Keep in mind that higher resolutions may take up more storage space on your device.

Apple ProRAW:

Apple ProRAW captures and stores more image data than JPEG or HEIC, which allows for greater flexibility and control during post-processing. Some benefits of Apple ProRAW include:

  1. Higher Dynamic Range: Apple ProRAW captures more detail in shadows and highlights, providing greater flexibility during editing.
  2. More Detail: ProRAW preserves more detail in images, particularly in areas such as foliage and hair.
  3. More Control: ProRAW allows for greater control over parameters like white balance and exposure during editing.
  4. Less Compression: ProRAW files are less compressed than JPEG or HEIC files, resulting in higher-quality images.

Apple ProRAW is a similar to other native RAW file formats generated by professional digital cameras, and require editing before they can be saved to a file format suitable for print. Common image editing applications such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, CaptureOne and other image tools are recommended for this process.

Overall, Apple ProRAW provides greater flexibility and control over the final image as compared to pre-compressed formats such as JPEC or HEIC. This is particularly useful for professional photographers who want the convenience of a smart phone while retaining as much color information and processing options as possible.
